Today in western civ we went over Hellenistic culture, to prepare for the test tomorrow.
- Hellenistic culture is a blend of greek, Egyptian, Persian, and Indian culture
- Alexander became a former center of commerce and culture/ civilization
- Aristocrats found out that the sun is at least x300 bigger than earth, Earth and the plant revolved around the sun
- Ptolemy disagrees with aristocrats, earth is center of the universe, this is taught in the 14 centuries
- Eratosthenes estimated the value of pi and explained law of the lever
- The Archimedes screw could raise water form the ground.
- Zeno is a stoicism and epicureanism who is a greek philosopher from 335-263 BC
- He founded the school of philosophy
- Epicureanism is tha toga doesn't have interest
- The colossus of Rhodes is a bronze statue that stood over 100 ft high and collapsed after an earthquake that happened
Once we finished taking notes class and was over and our only homework to study for the test tomorrow.
