March 8

Today in Western Civ we got another day to work on our project and it is due on Monday. We started writing our essay and finished up the powerpoint and over the weekend our group is going to build a stadium where they had the olympics. Today in class we finished up the powerpoint so this is what we got.

  • In ancient greece you could only compete in the olympics if you were a:
  • Greek male
  • free citizens
  • not a criminal
  • and whose city states agreed to participate
  • Any social class

  • Orsippos,  a general from Megara
  • Polymnistor, a shepherd
  • Diagoras, a member of a royal family from Rhodes
  • Alexander I, son of Amyndas and King of Macedonia
  • Democritus, a philosopher

    • Going to the olympics everyone is trying achieving their goal of getting a medal, their dream is to get the gold medal in their sport. Years ago they didn’t know what medals were.
    • There were no gold, silver or bronze medals. If they won, they were given a wreath of leaves. Also they let one of their hero’s come back home. Athletes competed for the glory of their city and winners were seen as being touched by the gods

Then class was over and we left.
