Today in Western Civ we took a test. It was a on a pink piece of paper and was four pages long and was 33 questions in total. It had no maps and true or false and no matching it was all multiply choice. Most of the the stuff on the test was stuff we learned in the begin of the quarter. I circled all my answers on the pink paper then checked over it then I circled the circles on the scan thingy.  Then went back through and checked my answers again and then make sure I circled all the bubbles. Then went and turned in my paper. While I was sitting here Mr. Schick made Caroline and Quinn come back and fix what they forgot to fill in. Then Mr.Schick went to grade them and we went over them in class. Then class was over and when we come back from break we don't have class the first day back.

Today in western civ we went over Hellenistic culture, to prepare for the test tomorrow. Hellenistic culture is a blend of greek, Egyptian, Persian, and Indian culture Alexander became a former center of commerce and culture/ civilization Aristocrats found out that the sun is at least x300 bigger than earth, Earth and the plant revolved around the sun Ptolemy disagrees with aristocrats, earth is center of the universe, this is taught in the 14 centuries Eratosthenes estimated the value of pi and explained law of the lever The Archimedes screw could raise water form the ground. Zeno is a stoicism and epicureanism who is a greek philosopher from 335-263 BC He founded the school of philosophy  Epicureanism is tha toga doesn't have interest  The colossus of Rhodes is a bronze statue that stood over 100 ft high and collapsed after an earthquake that happened Once we finished taking notes class and was over and our only homework to study for the test tomorrow.

Today in western civ we were supposed to take a test but since we had so many snow days we changed it to Wednesday since we didn't finish covering everything. In class we took notes form the reading in the book on Alexander empire. Alexander conquers Persia and Egypt and extend his empire to the Indus River in the northeastern part of India. We learned Macedonia is just north of Greece. We learned King Philip 11 took note and dreamed of taking control of Greece. Another important fact was that Philip built Macedonia power and in 359 BC he became king. He was going to conquer Persia but he was a murder. Alexander named himself king at age 20 and died when was 32.  Alexander is outnumbered by Darius army but he still won. Alexander never lost a battle in his time ruling. He has been fighting for 11 year and has marched 11,000 miles in his short life time. Then class was over and we left for the day.

Today in western civ class since we were getting out early we didn't do much. We started off by listening to Ryan's presentation on Homer that he had to redo. It talked about whether or not Homer really existed. He talked about Homer's two famous books and what they were about and how long they were. After Ryan's presentation the whole class voted on weather or not Homer is real or not. The class voted yes. We then talked about the snow and what would happen if it was to dangerous to go home we would stay at school till it was safe to drive home. We then looked at the weather prediction for the next couple of days and we learned about how much snow we were going to get over the next few days We are going to get 14-22 inches of snow. We then looked at pictures of Mr.Schicks dogs in the snow from the snow storm from 3 years ago. Then class was over and we went home.

He talked about how Greeces democracy was. Then we listened to Nick, Jimmy, Richie, and Marcus talk about The Trireme and see there model representation of the ship.  We learned it has 3 rows and around 170 people on the ship. We saw what the inside of the ship looked liked and they talked about it. We then learned when t sailed and what its use was for. We learned how it was made and what it looks like. We then graded them on there presentation. Then we read pages 146-149 in the textbook on The Spread of Hellenistic Culture.  It was about Alexander he owned a library and had a really big on. He was very interested in science and would love to learned about it. Then class was over and we left for the day.

March 14

Today in Western Civ we went over two different projects and we learned about Greek Civilization and Ancient Greek Pottery.  In the first powerpoint we learned pretty much everything we had been going over in class but in a different way. The way the group presented was different then what they had in class and was a cool way of expressing it. Then the pottery group explained everything that did to make it the pot and how it was made. Also the drawings that are on their pot represent a story so we heard about that and how it related to Greek times. Then that group passed around the pot so everyone could see it up close. Then we had ran out of time for the class period so we still have two more groups to present.

March 12

Today in western Civ we started listening to the different group present their projects about Ancient Greece. If we were not the ones up front we had to grade there projects liked we were the teacher. The first group to go was about greek food. They presented and then they gave the class the food that they had made over the weekend. The food was really good. The second group to go was about greek weapons and we learned what things they used to fight with and that group had a outfits and props for their topic. Then the last group that went for the day was my group and we shared about the olympics and we watched a video of what it looked like and showed our representation of the olympic stadium. Then we finished and then class was almost over so we cleaned up the food stuff and we left.

Today in Western Civ we talked about the wind storm we had on Friday, and for the rest of class we got to work on our projects. We talked about what we were going to do as a group other than the powerpoint and finished up the powerpoint. This is one of our slides that we did today. All athletes competed without any attire. Wrestlers and pankration (a sort of mixed martial art which combined boxing and wrestling) competitors fought covered in oil Corporal punishment awaited those guilty of a false start on the track There were only two rules in the pankration  no biting and no gouging Boxers were urged to avoid attacking the on display male genitals There were no points, no time limits and no weight classifications in the boxing Athletes in the combat sports had to indicate their surrender by raising their index fingers – at times they died before they could do this Boxers who could not be separated could opt for klimax, a system whereby one fighter was gr...

Today in Western Civ we read about Alexander's Empire in the textbook on page 142-145. I learned that Macedonia is located north of Greece and had a rough terrain and a cold climate. I learned that under Aristotle's teachings Alexander learned about science, geography, and literature. To inspire himself he kept the Iliad under his pillow. Once he became king he put his military training into use. When the people of Thesbes rebelled Alexander destroyed the city and 6,000 Thesbes were killed. In 334 BC he lead 35,000 soldiers across Hellespont into Anatolia. Victory gave Alexander control over Anatolia. Alexander's army occupied Babylon, Susa, and Persepolis Alexander then disappeared and no one knew where he was then the city caught on fire and the fire is still unknown today. Alexander was more interested in expanding his empire then controlling it. A little later after this Alexander died at age 32. Then the chapter was over and so was class.
